The Plagues and the gods of Egypt

                                                                                                          Source: Heart of Wisdom

Most of you will recall the story of when Joseph found favor with God, saved the Egyptian people from a terrible 7 year famine, and then how his family moved to Egypt and after many years became the slaves of the Egyptians. God raised up Moses and Aaron to go to Pharoah to tell him to 'let My people go!' When Pharoah refuses to do so, God brings several plagues upon the Egyptians.

What you may not know, is that those plagues were not just an incentive to let His people go. Egypt had many, many gods and goddesses that they worshipped. This demonstration of power was not only to show the Israelites that their God was alive and could be trusted, but also to show the Egyptians that their gods were nothing. The confrontation that played out was the God of the Bible against the false gods of Egypt!

First plague: The water turned to blood on the Nile and all the rivers of Egypt, even in waters already drawn from the river and stored in pots. It caused a stink throughout the land.
Which god? Osiris was the chief god of the Nile. In addition, there was Nu, the god of the life of the Nile, also Hapimon the water bearer and Tauret.

Second Plague: Frogs in abundance infested the land of Egypt to the point where they were found in their houses and even their beds!
Which god? Hekt, half human half frog.

Third Plague: Aaron struck the dust of the earth with his rod and out came lice, biting gnats.
Which god? Geb was the god of the earth who was accredited with the bounty of the soil.

Fourth Plague: Swarms of bloodsucking gadflies, in their houses and on the ground.
Which god? Khepri had the head of a fly.

Fifth Plague: Death of Cattle and Livestock
Which god? Apis, the Bull god; Hathor, the cow-headed god.

Sixth Plague: Moses took ashes and threw them in the air, bringing boils and sores on man and beast.
Which god? Isis, goddess of medicine and peace; Thoth, god of intelligence and medical learning.

Seventh Plague: A tempest of hail, fire and thunder.
Which god? Nut, goddess of the sky; Horus, the sky god; Shu, the wind god.

Eighth Plague: Locusts, this directly affected their food supply.
Which god? Nepri, the grain god; Ermutet, goddess of child birth and crops.

Ninth Plague: Thick darkness
Which god? Ra, god of the sun;

Tenth Plague: Death of the firstborn.
Which god? The Pharoah's of Egypt were often worshipped and deified. He was believed to be the son of Ra manifest in the flesh.

After all these plagues were initiated, where were these great gods of Egypt that the people worshipped? They were no match for the God of the Universe!!

It's interesting to note the several times it mentions that these plagues affected only the Egyptians and their land. Even during the absolute darkness there was natural light in the dwellings of the Israelites.
Although the magicians were able to repeat the first two plagues, they could not replicate the others.

Next, I will be looking into the plagues of Egypt and the coming judgments in the book of Revelation to see if there's any correlation.

Revelation 12 Signs in the Sky 2017

     Source: ERF Ministries, Scott Clarke

Revelation 12

A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.”[a] And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

Revelation 12 speaks of a woman in labor who gives birth to a child. The Dragon tries to snatch the child, but the child is 'caught up' before he is able to do so. Then the woman flees for a time. Many refer to this as the birth of the Christ Child, which it does mention though it happened 2000 years ago, but the Scripture also puts this near the time of the Tribulation, the coming of the Kingdom, etc.

The woman is Israel and the Child is the Messiah. However, if you read further, the dragon goes after the rest of the woman's offspring, and since the woman is supernaturally protected, I believe this is the church.

Those of you who have taken my bible studies are aware of the Mazaroth, which is the story God put in the sky by way of reminder, to show us the way to salvation and future events. Unfortunately, over the years these signs were 'changed' into what we know today as the Zodiac, but that was never what it was intended to be. What God has given us for good, Satan will try to confuse, and in this case he has turned it into a form of soothsaying and predictions.

What's super interesting, and the point of this post, is that the event described in Revelation may have a possible fulfillment in the sky today!  It started August 2016, then on November 20, 2016 Jupiter (also known as the king star), entered the side or border of the constellation of Virgo. It will stay within her 'womb' for 42 weeks (equal to a long term gestation), and will move out between her 'legs'  on September 23, 2017.

Some believe this will be the beginning of some major events. The reason is because so much of this happens on Jewish Feast Days. They believe it is the start of the Tribulation or the time of the Rapture. The Bible says that this sign is a warning of future events of ominous significance. I don't know if anything will happen this September, or whether that is for a future date, but I do think it's an interesting occurrence. What do you think?
